This year's show was a
great success and was enjoyed by all who attended. Below are some
pictures from the show. When we have information about the 2010 show,
we will post it here.
The Mid-Hudson Woodworkers held its third annual Woodworking Show
on Saturday, October 17 at the Hurley Reformed Church. The
Mid-Hudson Woodworkers is a chapter of the Northeastern Woodworkers
Association, an all volunteer, nonprofit organization.
In
previous years Mid-Hudson Woodworkers has participated in the Dutchess
County Fair, the Sheep and Wool Festival, the Hunter Mountain Craft
Fair and the Hurley Corn Festival. We have also been active
in
our support of the NWA Woodworkers’ Showcase held each Spring in
Saratoga.
The Mid-Hudson Woodworkers has from time to time
participated in projects to assist the local community. Most
recently, we have built storage sheds for the Boy Scouts
camp.
The previous year we built a playhouse for the local chapter of CASA,
the Court Appointed Special Advocates.
This year’s
Woodworkers Show featured some excellent displays of our members’
work, including furniture, boxes, bowls, goblets, guitars and artistic
pieces. It also featured many interesting demonstrations
by
our local experts. There were ongoing demonstrations of
different aspects of woodturning, such as bowls, vases, finials
etc. There were also ongoing scrollsaw demonstrations from
basic to advanced, including holiday ornaments. There were
also ongoing hand tool demonstrations, including the use of a
handplane. Each visitor had the opportunity to use a
handplane to make a very fine shaving. For children, we
conducted a “Children’s Workshop” throughout the day, in which each
child attending made a birdhouse to take home (free of
charge). We also had wooden cars as gifts for younger
children.
There was a raffle of selected woodworking items as well as a sale
of selected items.
Admission was $3.00, free to children under the age of 12.
Everyone
who attended prior Shows had a wonderful time. This year’s
Show was be a fun day for everyone.
